So I went down to Artspace on opening night to see my work not win some stuff. disappointed but more motivated after that. Show is up through March so go take a look.

just got word that two of my most recent pieces from the under the skin series have made it into a show at artspace. the show opens to the public on the first friday in March. im gonna make it out to the opening and i hope others will as well.

Teacher Workday Progress

I sat down yesterday to work for about 6 straight hours and this is what came from that. It is a second try at my older brother Scott because I did not like the other one at all. I got the self portrait and the portrait of Jason framed this week and will submit them to a show at artspace. I submitted a different work to VAE for a show called imagine this past week also. If it gets in I will post it. If not, I will try and forget about it as soon as possible.

This picture is still unfinished, but after yesterday I wont be able to look at it for a few days. I will post the final product when it gets done.

I think Im going to call this series under the skin. this is another one of my brothers and is the same size and format as the others. its not finished yet but well on its way.

I'm finally settled into my new home in downtown Raleigh and I love it. There is something really cool about being in the city, and when it starts to warm up outside I can start to enjoy it. For right now I am still working out of my bedroom, but the space is bigger and I have room to move around and store some stuff.

I have been working non-stop for the past week and some updates are coming soon. Also, I got the apartment so I am relocating to downtown Raleigh in two weeks.

That blank space has been filled, but its not done so I will delay posting its progress until it is complete and I think it is fit for others eyes.

Also, I am moving into a new apartment soon so I will have a bit more space to paint and I should be doing all of this computer work on a new macbook pro. Having a job or two pays off from time to time.

I hope that I am productive in the next few weeks because I have a few burning ideas that will get lost if I'm too busy and forgetful.

Im in the stages of planning out what is going to go on this blank page. I know it will follow the anatomical/emotional content of the previous piece, and I have some ideas that I'm kicking around. Looking foward to what comes next...

Sketchbook stuff

These images are from two of my sketchbooks that are related to my current series. I put them on my wall next to my workspace to pull ideas from for my newest pieces. Two are graphite and watercolor, and one is crayon.

Just finished it I think.... Maybe I will do something else to it at some point. It is mixed media (watercolor, watercolor pencil, and graphite) on paper.

This is a piece I did in the spring. I gave it to my homies over at Vertical Urge skateboard shop because they have always been good to me. It is sitting in an office over there and I need to go get a photo of the final piece, but this is a progress shot I took comparing the still life with the painting.

Made this painting in the fall of 2008. It is really big. I had to learn to build the wooden frame and stretch the canvas because its tough to find a 6 foot x 4 foot prestretched canvas. I was fortunate to have VAE gallery support it in a show in May called "Unfettered" where it sold quickly. It is acrylic and spray paint on canvas.

This painting is a vanitas still-life from 2006 or 2007. It is hangning in my good friend's home in North Raleigh where I was a resident for a short while when my income was very low. They helped me out when I needed it most and so I gave them the painting that made me believe that I should continue painting. It is 24"x46" and I used student grade oil paints on a prestretched canvas.
